History

Herman was born in Dallas, Texas and has been involved in all aspects of residential real estate, including buying, selling, building, remodeling, plan design, interior design, contracting and consulting. While running his insurance business in Dallas, he started Lakeside Home Builders in 1982 and constructed water-front homes, in East Texas, on Cedar Creek Lake where he lived. He has designed and built homes ranging from 1500 to 7,000 square feet.

In 1997, he and his family moved from Dallas to Boerne, Texas. Soon after his move to the area, he purchased 15.92 acres at Cordillera Ranch and built his family their home at 123 Park Ridge, with swimming pool and barn with living quarters. It was the first home Cordillera Ranch advertised and was featured in two magazines. It was the Cover Feature story of Homes & Land, March/April 1999, Volume 1 Number 7 and in New Home Neighborhoods for Living, Volume V Number 4, 1999. See our Articles The Cordillera Ranch home was sold in July 2003 to move their boys closer to their school, San Antonio Military Academy.

In 2003 Herman and his wife purchase a vacant corner lot in Olmos Park, Texas, 507 W. El Prado. There he built his family’s home of over 7,000 square feet with a large pool and cabana. See property featured on Home page and under new construction.

In January 2006 he began remodeling a 9,000 square foot home in the Monte Vista Subdivision of San Antonio. Over the years Herman has negotiated and purchased many lots and tracts of land. He also purchased, remodeled, and sold many single-family foreclosures in San Antonio from 2003 to 2006.

In 2006, Herman was contracted by a prominent San Antonio businessman to build a large condominium development. He negotiated and contracted five, five-acre tracts, from five different landowners on Eckhert & Huebner Rd in San Antonio. He worked with architects and engineers to design a 482-unit condominium development for 20 acres of the 25-acre tract. He worked with three local home-owner associations and the City of San Antonio Zoning Department to re-zone the 20 acres to R-33. The re-zoning was approved. In addition, the project was also approved to build four-stories. The remaining five acres were zoned commercial. Due to market conditions in 2007 the landowner opted to sell the property. The property was purchased and developed, twenty acres of apartments, and the five-acre commercial tract, a Rapid Recover Center/Transitional Care owned by Bridgemoor.

In 2016 Herman was contacted by a Dallas business associate to remodel a 4,300 square foot home he purchased in Waxahachie, Texas that had been severely damaged by a tornado in December 2015. The home sat flooded with rain for over six months. The structure had to be completely stripped down to the framing studs, dried out and treated for mold. A new roof was installed immediately to reduce further water damage. (See attached photos under Remodeling)

While completing the Waxahachie project one of Herman’s sons and his wife of Dallas, Texas purchased a house built in the early 1900’s in the Dallas Conservation District to demo and construct a new home. His son, his wife and Herman worked with the architects to design the home of their dreams. Herman had the original house demolished and construction began on their new home. The home is over 4,000 square feet, two stories, a detached garage with an apartment on the second floor. Home completed December 2018. (See attached photos under New Construction)
